The Name:

Many years ago, Di visited the place where her grandfather was born, a tiny medieval village with a few houses and priory in the Isle of Wight. The name of the village is "Godshill".

On recent research of the web we came across this little bit of history

The origin of the name Godshill supposedly results from the foundations of the church being moved from the bottom to the top of the hill on three occasions whilst it was being built. This was taken to be a sign from God that the church should be built on the hill, hence the name Godshill. It is now considered one of the prettiest villages on the Island with its thatched cottage and is the home to several tea rooms.

Godshill, Isle of Wight 1910

When we built this mountain retreat on one of the highest points in the Bunya Mountains, we discovered that this magical and romantic setting of rainforest and floating clouds has witnessed many couples vows of marriage.

So the name "Godshill" was chosen.
